In order to continue to deliver our commitment
to the
success of every student and to realising the potential of their Essex Spirit through their contribution to our shared mission, we are establishing a new Student Development Services team within the Academic Section to bring together key activities to better support our ambitious new Strategic Plan (currently under development).
Our vision for the new team is the provision of integrated leadership across the cognate areas of academic skills and employability support in order to maximise the synergies between them for the benefit of our students. The new team will also play a key role in supporting our ambitious targets in relation to student success and graduate outcomes. This new role represents an exciting opportunity to help drive forward the work of this new team. The successful candidate will utilise their professional expertise and experience to which will make a real and lasting difference to students' achievement and success.
Duties of the Role
This role is an important management position which will work proactively with academic departments to provide consultancy, expert labour market analysis and advice to enhance each department's approach to employability to support graduate outcomes. The post holder will play a key role in ensuring that every student is offered effective and appropriate employability support through designing and delivering embedded Career Development Learning and delivery of careers guidance, which is aligned with strategic priorities and supports students as they move through the University and prepare for time beyond Essex.
Skills and qualifications required
The post holder will bring considerable, directly relevant and professional experience to support students to achieve excellent outcomes. They will have experience of delivering one-to-one careers advice and guidance and experience of designing and delivering careers education programmes. Additionally, they will have experience of working with graduate employers and proven ability to establish and maintain strong business relationships and networks.
A good honours degree (2.1 or above) or equivalent level qualification and a relevant professional qualification related to careers guidance (e.g.; Dip CG, NVQ in career education information and guidance in HE) or substantial, recent, directly relevant professional experience are essential.
