Duties of the Role
The duties and responsibilities of the AMSP Area Coordinator are divided into five main parts: management and coordination, communication and evaluation, priority area support, student support, and teacher support. The balance of time spent on these areas will vary throughout the year. A flexible working approach is therefore required and the post holder will be required to liaise with the AMSP Regional Lead for their area about which aspects of the role to focus on at different times of the year.
The post will involve some evening events and occasionally weekends, for which time off in lieu is given. The post will involve frequent travel to meetings and events within the region.
Skills and qualifications required
The AMSP Area Coordinator post requires a candidate with a degree in mathematics or a very closely related subject. A mathematics teaching qualification and teaching experience in secondary schools, including experience of teaching level 3 mathematics (A level Maths/Further Maths and/or Core Maths), is highly desirable. The post holder will have a good knowledge of educational administration and assessment procedures in UK secondary education and will have a high level of ICT literacy and should be demonstrably interested in the use of web-based teaching tools and resources. Accurate written English and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively, including writing reports and public speaking are essential, as is enthusiasm for mathematics and the ability to motivate others. The AMSP Area Coordinator role involves working as part of a regional and national team and so requires the ability to create and maintain excellent professional relations with others and work as part of a team. Excellent organisational skills are essential.
Due to the nature of the work, this appointment is subject to a criminal record check, known as a Disclosure.
