Duties of the RoleNEVERMIND is a Horizon 2020 project that aims to empower people who suffer from symptoms of depression related to a serious somatic disease (such as myocardial infarction, leg-amputation, cancer, and kidney failure) by placing them at the centre of their mental healthcare. We are equipping patients with a smartphone, an App, and a lightweight sensorised shirt to collect data about their mental and physical health and then provide effective feedback for the self-management of their mental condition. The Essex team is leading the development of the real-time decision support system. Physiological data, along with sleep and speech analysis, are combined with social interaction monitoring, mood agenda and questionnaire scores to evaluate all the aspects of patients (psychological, physical, and social) as a whole with the aim of predicting the severity and onset of depressive symptoms. In particular, the Essex team is working on the following tasks: 1. Interfacing with existing web-service based databases to retrieve daily recordings: signals include ECG, respiration data, movement dynamics and speech. 2. Biomedical signal processing and feature extraction. 3. Processing the data with advanced machine learning algorithms for prediction purposes. 4. Clustering and transfer learning.The successful applicant will work with Dr Luca Citi and Prof Riccardo Poli and will be part of the Essex BCI and Neural Engineering Lab: today the UK's largest research group in brain interfaces.Web site: http://essexbcis.uk.
Appointment will be made as Senior Research Officer.Skills and qualifications requiredThe successful applicant will have received a PhD Biomedical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Science or closely related disciplines. The ideal candidate will have significant experience of biomedical signal processing and machine learning techniques.
