The Essex Accounting Group is home to an international community of academics and students. The Group has established strengths in conducting world-class research in accounting from an interdisciplinary perspective, drawing from current and emerging social, environmental, political, economic and health challenges. It is the leading research group nationally and internationally on research into accounting in emerging economies. It hosts the Journal of Accounting in Emerging Economies, and conference. The Group is also one of the leading research groups in financial and non-financial accounting and reporting and public sector accounting, hosting the BAFA special interest group on Financial Accounting and Reporting and the Public Service Accounting and Accountability Group. It hosts the joint editorship of Financial Accountability and Management and the chairpersonship of the EIASM public sector conference.
Duties of the Role
The Accounting Group is seeking to make an appointment at Professorial level to strengthen and expand its teaching and research activities in any area of accounting. This appointment will have a vital role in enhancing the School’s research leadership profile, developing undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision, and extending the Accounting Group’s profile nationally and internationally.
Reporting to the Dean of the Business School, you will engage in and publish world leading research and generate significant research income; successfully supervise PhD students; offer leadership in research; undertake teaching responsibilities relevant to programmes of the School; and contribute more widely to the School through service, administration and, where appropriate, informal leadership.

Qualifications and Skills required
Candidates should have a PhD in Accounting or specialism related to the area of the post, extensive experience of teaching and research in accounting, together with an extensive publication record in peer-reviewed internationally rated journals in accounting related areas and a track-record of securing external funding. You should also have excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills and substantive experience in leadership and management in an academic environment coupled with the ability to motivate, and co-ordinate with, other staff.

Appointment to this post will be on an ASER (teaching and research) contract.
