Innovation and Technology Solutions, delivering outstanding IT and enabling excellence in its use, provides the supporting and enabling IT for the whole University across three campuses, from underlying network infrastructure to digital skills training for staff and students. Our vision is of a University where students and staff are actively supported in their endeavours to excel in creating, managing, communicating, and exploiting information by using information technology facilities and services that are user-centred, flexible, accessible, and resilient.
Innovation and Technology Solutions, a section of over 120 staff, is organised in five main operational service groups - Infrastructure, Technology for People and Place, Software Development, Commercial Applications, and Strategic Projects and Improvement. The Infrastructure Group comprises about 20 staff currently organised in three teams - Networks and Telephony, Systems and Storage and Directory and Cloud Services. The group is responsible for the delivery of IT infrastructure and related services at all three University campuses and beyond.
Network and telephony infrastructure and services are vital to the University's operation, providing Internet access, connecting three campuses (Colchester, Loughton and Southend) and providing over 12,000 active network outlets, 670 wireless access points, and 4,500 active telephone lines of which 2,311 are IP and 2,130 are analogue.

Duties of the Role
The post holder will work within the Network and Telephony team in support of our Universities mission. The scope of the job includes the configuration, deployment, monitoring, support, de-commissioning and upgrade of network and telecoms equipment. You will work in a team whose skills range in experience and breadth of knowledge and will use your expertise to deliver University wide projects and events such as graduation, registration, clearing and the deployment of networks and telecoms equipment into new University buildings.

This post is based at our Colchester campus, but periodic travel to our other campuses will be required.

Qualifications and Skills required
The post holder will possess a degree in an IT discipline or equivalent experience and it is essential to have experience of working in an enterprise networking environment and an understanding of IP and Ethernet networking. With excellent communication, organisational, administrative and IT skills, the successful applicant will be equally able to work autonomously or as part of a team.
The successful applicant will have the ability to deliver new services and technologies while remaining resolutely customer focused.
The post holder will have the confidence to flag issues and to discuss solutions with senior technical staff as appropriate.
This is a fixed-term, full-time post for 24 months.
