As one of the largest law schools in the UK, we offer a wide range of courses to our students. Alongside our single-honours LLB, we deliver joint LLBs with various other subjects such as human rights, politics, philosophy, business, finance, and criminology. We also run an award-winning joint English and French law degree. At the postgraduate level, we have courses in subjects including human rights (both LLMs and interdisciplinary MAs), business and commercial law, international trade law, maritime law and international law. The appointee will demonstrate a commitment to providing an engaging, innovative curriculum that meets the modern needs of our diverse student body.

We provide rich and engaging forums for discussion, the opportunity to develop new research areas, research feedback provided by mentors, and practical support through our research support fund and peer review of funding applications.
Duties of the Role
The School is recruiting a Senior Lecturer (ASE or ASER) to join our diverse community of scholars. The successful candidate will assist with supervising advice and representation given to members of the public by students working in the Law Clinic, to assist with training such students, and developing the clinic’s policies, procedures and direction. The selected candidate will contribute to the School’s strategic development of innovative and engaging clinical legal education and pedagogy.
The successful candidate will contribute to excellence in education through successful and sustained engagement in curriculum development, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and supervision at both an individual and a strategic level.
If appointed on an ASER contract, you will develop a research agenda, which pursues individual and/or collaborative research objectives and produce research outputs for publication and generate research income appropriate in scale to career stage and subject area norms.

Skills and qualifications required
Applicants will have relevant doctoral level degree in law, or be close to completion of a PhD, as well as having an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in law (or equivalent professional experience). They will have substantial experience of teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and a commitment to the development of high-quality, innovative teaching and learning support, with clear understanding of the needs of students in their academic development.
For an ASER appointee, it is essential they have a clear publication plan for submission to future Research Excellence Framework (REF) exercises and evidence of a research agenda, engagement in high-quality research activity and a developing research profile.
Please note on your application which level you are applying for ASE or ASER. If you are applying ASE level, you will not need to submit a research statement or a three-year funding plan.
