Essex Business SchoolThe Accounting Group in Essex Business School has an international reputation for leading edge research in four key areas of accounting, namely: accounting and development, accounting in the public and third sectors, corporate social responsibility, governance, accountability and accounting regulation. Essex Business School seeks to strengthen and expand its teaching and research activities, and is seeking to make an additional appointment in the field of Accounting at Lecturer, Senior Lecturer or Reader level.
The Role and DutiesReporting to the Dean of the Business School, the post-holder will, subject to the level of appointment, engage in and publish international and/or world leading research; generate significant research income; successfully supervise PhD students; offer leadership in research; undertake teaching responsibilities relevant to programmes of the School; and contribute more widely to the School through service, administration and, where appropriate, informal leadership.
In addition, at Senior Lecturer level there will be the requirement to take on senior administrative and management roles within the department, providing research support and leadership to junior colleagues in the group. At Reader level, you will need to demonstrate a significant research portfolio to include a well-established track record of high quality (ABS 3* and 4* level) publications in leading refereed journals, research funding from a variety of sources and capability for dissemination to different audiences for research.
Qualifications and Skills requiredWe would especially welcome applications from candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas: management accounting & control, financial accounting & reporting, social & environmental accounting, taxation and/or auditing. Candidates with expertise in other areas of accounting are also encouraged to apply.
Applicants at the Lecturer level should have a postgraduate degree or equivalent level qualification in Accounting or other specialism related to the area of the post, in addition to a PhD in Accounting or other specialism related to the area of the post (or be close to completing one). You should also be able to demonstrate evidence of research output, either published or publishable, of peer-reviewed international quality and experience of teaching in the area of accounting, or demonstrable potential for achieving this.
Applicants at the Senior Lecturer/Reader level should have a PhD in Accounting or specialism related to the area of the post, experience of teaching in the area of Accounting and a strong record of high quality research publications. Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (or the commitment to gain this at an appropriate level) is essential at both these levels. A record of raising research funds is also essential. In addition, you should have excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills and a capability for dissemination of research to different audiences. In addition at Reader level, applicants should also have extensive experience of teaching and research in any area of accounting, together with an extensive publication record in peer-reviewed journals in accounting-related areas; candidates should have substantive experience in leadership and management in an academic environment coupled with the ability to motivate, and co-ordinate with, other staff.
