To further develop our current teaching, research and partnership activities at Essex Business School, we are seeking to make an appointment for our Southend-on-Sea campus (Management Science and Entrepreneurship Group- MSE) to extend our expertise and reputation for world-class research in International Business Management or Entrepreneurship or Operations and Supply Chain Management.
Duties of the RoleThis appointment is intended to build further upon our reputation by contributing to the range of teaching offered and strengthening the research profile of the MSE Group, promoting Essex Business School as one of the premier business schools in the UK.
Duties at Lecturer level will include contributing to excellence in education by designing and delivering substantive and effective teaching and learning support as agreed with the Head of Department and producing research outputs for publication at acceptable levels of volume and academic excellence and disseminate the result of research and scholarship through appropriate Knowledge Exchange activities.
Duties at Senior Lecturer or Reader level will include engaging in curriculum development, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and research supervision at both an individual and a strategic level and providing research leadership and engaging in activities that will enhance the research profile of the Department.
Duties at Professor level will include providing strategic leadership in education; building up a sustained and effective record of impact at a strategic level in relation to teaching and learning; making a substantial contribution to the international profile of the University through the generation of internationally excellent research, scholarship and teaching; and pursuing research that is world leading in terms of originality, significance and rigour, in keeping with the REF criteria.
At all levels you will be expected to engage in individual and/or collaborative research activity (resulting in internationally excellent publications) that is in keeping with REF criteria and generate external research income appropriate in scale to career stage and subject area norms.
The post-holder will be required to fully contribute to the development of the MSE group through their work in international business management or entrepreneurship or operations management and supply chain, and will play an important role in the development of the teaching, research, development and administration activities of the Essex Business School and the MSE Group at Southend.

Qualifications and Skills requiredApplicants should hold a good first degree in Management or social science specialism related to the area of the post, and a relevant doctoral-level research degree (or be close to completion of PhD if applying for Lecturer level) or equivalent professional experience or practice.
Applicants at the Lecturer level will be required to provide evidence of a research agenda, engagement in high-quality research activity and a developing research profile; and have proven experience in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels, or demonstrable potential to achieve this.
Applicants at the Senior Lecturer or Reader level will be required to provide evidence of an established and internationally recognised research profile, with a strong track record of published academic output at international levels of recognition; a sustained record of effectiveness in education at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels; and a record of success in generating external research income appropriate in scale to disciplinary norms and career stage.
Applicants at the Professor level will possess evidence of teaching excellence at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels; a sustained record of strategic leadership in both academic practice and academic development; and a strong, sustained record of academic publication at international or world-leading levels of recognition. You will also be expected to have an established record of success in securing and managing substantial research grants (appropriate to the discipline).
Applicants at all levels will need to possess evidence of a clear publication plan for submission to future Research Excellence Framework (REF) programmes and have experience of curriculum design and development.
The ability to complement and strengthen the School's teaching and research activities in international business or strategy, and demonstrable ability to support the teaching and learning experience of all academic colleagues in a higher education environment are key attributes for this post.
Appointment to this post will be made as Lecturer (R), Senior Lecturer (R), Reader or Professor (R), on a Teaching and Research (ASER) contract. The anticipated start date is 2 January 2020 and this can be discussed at interview.
