The SchoolThe Department of Literature, Film, and Theatre Studies was one of the foundational departments in the University of Essex and is an exciting, interdisciplinary Department, where theory and practice across a range of disciplines from creative writing to theatre, literature, filmmaking and journalism thrive alongside each other. It was among the first in the UK to integrate United States Literature in to the curriculum and has a long tradition of teaching and research in the Literatures of the United States, English Literature, and the literatures of Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean.
The Role and DutiesThe Department of Literature, Film, and Theatre Studies is seeking to employ an inspiring lecturer in international modernism, with interest across a range of writings including world literature, psychoanalysis, cinema, and women's and gender studies, to provide cover for a permanent staff member who has received a Leverhulme Research Fellowship. The appointed person will be expected to make a significant contribution to the education activities of the Department. They will also be expected to supervise students, at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, and participate in the usual range of administrative duties.Qualifications and Skills RequiredYou will have a first degree in a related field and a PhD in the field of international modernism or a related field is desirable.At the University of Essex internationalism is central to who we are and what we do.
