Estates and Campus Services supports the study and work of all students and staff through the provision of outstanding services that are customer focussed and professionally and sustainably delivered.
We are responsible for maintaining and developing the campuses buildings and grounds and the provision of customer led services such as campus security, student accommodation, catering, conferencing, nursery provision and sport.
Estates and Campus Services, a section of over 700 staff, is organised into twelve main operational areas and a number of central support functions.
Duties of the Role
We are looking for an electrical craftsperson for working on electrical systems in accordance with the University of Essex LV policy. The post holder will be expected to diagnose and repair faults in complicated electrical installations, plant and equipment and will undertake inspection and testing to current BS 7671 18th Edition on complex LV policies. We are seeking both Competent Persons (CP) and Authorised Persons (AP) as part of this vacancy.
The post holder will be expected to install new plant, equipment and services, and will be responsible for carrying out the full planned and preventative maintenance (PPM) programme of works. Additionally, the post holder will be working to manuals, instructions, drawings and specifications without direct supervision.

Skills and qualifications required
The successful candidate will have completed a recognised qualification or training to the current BS 7671 18th Edition, and will hold an NVQ level 2 in Electrical Engineering or related industry (or equivalent).
It is essential that the successful candidate is able to demonstrate experience in the maintenance of 3ph and 1ph commercial/industrial and domestic electrical supplies, and advantageous if installation can be evidenced. The successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively, and is willing to learn new methods of working, showing flexibility where required.
Hours of work are 36 hours per week, to be worked over a shift system of 7am – 7pm. Weekend working is expected to be 1 weekend in 6 but flexibility is required. The post holder will be expected to cover the ‘on-call’ rota, which is anticipated to be 1 week in 12. (see full information in jobpack)
