IT ServicesIT Services, delivering outstanding IT and enabling excellence in its use, provides the supporting and enabling IT for the whole University across three campuses, from underlying network infrastructure to digital skills training for staff and students.
A professional services section of around 80+ staff, IT Services is organised in three main operational service groups Client Services, Corporate Information Systems and Infrastructure. This post is based in the Systems and Lab Support team within the Infrastructure group. The group is responsible for the delivery of infrastructure and related central services at all three University campuses and beyond.
IT Services is seeking a full-time Senior Project Officer to work initially on a 12 month fixed-term contract.
Duties of the RoleThe purpose of this post is to assist in the development and implementation of several key specific IT Services projects to enhance IT Services' operational and service delivery to the whole University.
The first project is to manage the deployment of the University's cloud storage, sync and share solution, Box, for over 20,000 staff and students with varying degrees of technical expertise. This will require significant and careful coordination and communication both internally within IT Services and with all the University user groups in academic departments and professional services.
The second project is to manage the upgrade of the existing Microsoft Exchange/Office 365/Exim email environment.
Responsibilities will come under 5 key categories: 'Project management and delivery', 'Information gathering and analysis', 'Team work, collaboration and liaison', 'Communications' and 'Administration and IT'.

The role is based in Colchester but some travel to other campuses in Southend and Loughton may be required.
Qualifications and Skills requiredThe post-holder will possess a degree or equivalent qualification/experience.
With an awareness of project management techniques and approaches, experience of developing and writing reports and procedures in simple, easily digestible formats, they will have a track record of working successfully in managing or supporting an IT project to target. With excellent communication, organisational, administrative and IT skills, the successful applicant will have the ability to deliver complex ideas to a wide audience and be able to work autonomously as well as part of a team. They will also have the confidence to highlight issues and to discuss ways to solve with the project manager. It would be desirable for the successful candidate to have an understanding of the infrastructure of cloud based storage and email services.
