The School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering (CSEE) is a large and dynamic department in the Faculty of Science and Health. The School is internationally known for its research in a range of areas and offers an excellent education to its students. We are rapidly growing due to increasing student numbers and now wish to appoint a lecturer in the field of Theoretical Computer Science to further develop our research and education expertise.
We are advertising for a range of opportunities within our School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering and are now seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Theoretical Computer Science.
Duties of the RoleYou will work within part of a team to establish a Theoretical Computer Science research group assisting the new Professor of Theoretical Computer Science to produce high quality research and the continued contribution to the School's profile. The group will focus on theoretical aspects underpinning modern computer systems. Theory is here widely intended to include topics ranging from computational complexity of algorithms and learning, to theory of security and quantum computing.
You will contribute to excellence in education by designing and delivering substantive and effective teaching and learning support, at undergraduate and postgraduate levels; engage in individual and/or collaborative research activity that is in keeping with REF criteria; and generate external research funding, including in collaboration with colleagues, appropriate in scale to career stage and subject area norms.
We aim for excellence in education as well as research and are looking for individuals who can contribute to both.

Skills and Qualifications required
The successful candidate will have a relevant doctoral level research degree, or equivalent professional experience or practice or be close to completion of PhD, and will have fellowship of the Higher Education Academy or the ability to gain professional recognition at this or a higher level if appropriate.
You will have proven experience in teaching at undergraduate and/or post postgraduate levels, or demonstrable potential to engage in teaching and learning support in Higher Education in imaginative, engaging and innovative ways; evidence of a clear publication plan for submission to future Research Excellence Framework (REF) programmes; and evidence of a research agenda, engagement in high-quality research activity and a developing research profile.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal and the ability and willingness to engage in impact, knowledge exchange and outreach activities are essential.
Appointment to this post will be made as Lecturer (R) on a Teaching and Research (ASER) contract.
