Department of Mathematical Sciences
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Department of Mathematical Sciences (DMS). The Department is a growing and vibrant department in the Faculty of Science and Health. DMS is internationally known for its research in a range of areas, and offers an excellent education to its students. The Department is expanding due to increasing student numbers, and now wishes to appoint additional lecturers to help us grow our teaching and research.
Duties of the Role
We wish to expand the Department's existing research in Data Science and Statistics as well as open up and develop new research activities that will become recognised as outstanding and internationally leading. We are seeking ambitious candidates who can see themselves reaching professorial level in five to ten years. The post will also include teaching on our data science, actuarial science and mathematics courses at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level. This may include delivering existing modules and developing new ones and enhancing our research-led teaching in this area.
Other duties will include engaging in independent and/or collaborative research activity leading to the publication of research articles or other research outputs, which can be returned under the Research Excellence Framework engaging in other forms of research activity including seeking external funds to support this activity; contributing to the knowledge exchange activities of the Department; supervising undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD students and carrying out administrative duties.
Appointment will be made as Lecturer.

Qualifications and Skills required
Applicants should have a PhD in Data Science or Statistics or equivalent professional experience or practice or be close to completion of PhD. You should also have a good degree in Data Science or related discipline, as well as Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy or the ability to gain such recognition by the end of your probationary period.
You will also be required to demonstrate proven experience in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels, or demonstrable potential to engage in teaching and learning support in Higher Education in imaginative, engaging and innovative ways. Additionally, you will be expected to evidence a clear publication plan for submission to future Research Excellence Framework (REF) programmes and evidence of a research agenda, engagement in high-quality research activity and a developing research profile. The successful applicant will have strong written and verbal communication skills.
