Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in International Trade Law or Commercial Law
Job description
School of Law
Ranked in the Global top 50 in the 2018 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, at Essex Law School we take excellence in research and excellence in education equally seriously. New academic staff are supported to become fellows of the Higher Education Authority and we are a top 20 UK law school for research (REF2014). We champion research-led
education, where teaching is informed by research and students develop research skills.
We have an academic post available at Lecturer/Senior Lecturer level to expand our team in the area of international trade or commercial law (or related sub-fields such as maritime and financial laws) at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
Duties of the Role
This post combines teaching, research and academic administration. The focus of the post is on teaching undergraduates and possibly postgraduates in areas related to international trade law or commercial law (or related sub-fields such as maritime and financial laws). Ideally you will also contribute to teaching on a core LLB English law module such as contract law. You will also be assigned an administration role within the School.
You will produce high quality and impactful research outputs. We encourage collaborative and multi-disciplinary research projects. You will have clear plans and demonstrable ability to produce high quality scholarly work suitable for REF2021.
At Senior Lecturer level, the role would include taking on a more senior leadership/administrative role within the School and mentorship of junior colleagues. You will also engage in greater research leadership, demonstrating a strong record of high-quality research publications and generating impact.
Please indicate in application form whether you are applying for Lecturer or Senior Lecturer.
Skills and qualifications required
You will have, or be near to completion, of a PhD or be able to demonstrate an equivalent level of knowledge (for example proven research publications track record suitable for inclusion in the REF), including evidence of the ability to author high-quality scholarly work suitable for REF submission.
You will have subject expertise in international trade law or commercial law (or related sub-fields such as maritime and financial laws) and experience of teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
For the Senior Lecturer post you will also need to demonstrate a strong record of high-quality, REF submissible research publications, a well-established research agenda, the ability to attract research funding and manage research projects, to generate impact from research, demonstrable experience of successful supervision of PhD students and a record of successful performance of administrative duties.
At the University of Essex internationalism is central to who we are and what we do. We are committed to being a cosmopolitan, internationally-oriented university that is welcoming to staff and students from all countries and a university where you can find the world in one place.
