The Department of Economics at the University of Essex is ranked in the Top 5 in the UK for research power and research environment (REF 2021, THE 2022) and ranked 11th in the UK for Economics in the QS World University Rankings by Subject (2020). The Department is seeking to make a number of fixed-term appointments at Lecturer level for the Academic Year 2022-23, with contract end dates ranging from 31 July 2023 to 30 September 2023 (to be discussed at time of offer).
Duties of the Role
The post holders will teach theoretical and applied economics at the undergraduate and/or postgraduate level, including setting assessment and marking. You will supervise undergraduate and/or postgraduate projects in addition to providing support for other teaching-related and recruitment activities. The post holder will contribute to design and leadership of these activities, where needed, including student recruitment, deliver and design teaching as blended learning, and engage in scholarship and dissemination activities contributing toward the overall delivery of excellence in research and education of the department.
Key responsibilities will include engaging in individual and/or collaborative scholarship and professional practice activity; contributing to teaching delivery across a wide range of economic subfields and levels and in a variety of settings from small seminar groups to large formal lectures; and undertaking leadership duties related to pedagogic research and education appropriate to career stage.
There is an expectation that teaching will be delivered face-to-face, so candidates should anticipate the need to be present on campus regularly to fulfil the duties of this post.

Qualifications and Skills required
Applicants should have a relevant doctoral level degree (PhD) in Economics, or a closely related field (or be very near to completion of studies) or equivalent professional experience or practice.
Successful applicants will also have substantial experience in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels, or demonstrable potential to achieve this, and should have experience of designing and planning of learning activities and of developing effective learning environments (face-to-face and/or virtual learning).
We are seeking individuals who can demonstrate flexibility to adjust responsibilities and their delivery in the face of short-term changes to plans, and who possess the ability and willingness to undertake education-focussed leadership activities outside the classroom.
These posts are available on a teaching only (ASE) contract, on a full-time basis, although part-time working hours will be considered at a minimum of 0.2 FTE (7.2 hours per week). The contractual start date is expected to be in January 2023.
