Innovation and Technology Solutions, a section of over 100 staff, is organised in six main operational service groups - Software Development, Infrastructure, Commercial Applications, Technology for People and Place, Information Assurance and Cyber Security, and Strategic Projects.

Duties of the RoleThe Business Systems Analyst - Estates and Campus Services Systems will be responsible for the implementation, development and support of business information systems specifically for the Estates and Campus Services (ECS) section.
Based in the Commercial Applications group, with proven application development experience in a modern development environment, this specialist post will work alongside a pool of other Business Systems Analysts and work closely with colleagues in Software Development and other teams across Innovation and Technology Solutions.
In addition to contributing to the planning of the ECS use of systems in line with the University and ECS strategic plans and related supporting strategies, they will be responsible for the day to day management of the ECS systems. They will support and train users, identify improvements and will liaise with suppliers on faults.
They will ensure that 'off the shelf' systems are configured to provide optimum support to ECS, and proactively engage with the owners/ administrators of all ECS commercial applications to identify possible enhancement and/ or efficiency opportunities.
Where relevant for ECS, the postholder will be engaged in the development of various University wide business systems projects to ensure the most efficient and effective support of ECS.

Qualifications and Skills requiredThis is a substantive grade 8 post but will be considered as a developmental opportunity at grade 7 with support for progression subject to performance. Applicants with limited working experience in the areas specified are encouraged to apply as extensive training and development may be provided subject to overall aptitude and assessed technical capability.
The postholder will possess an honours degree or equivalent level qualification or equivalent relevant experience. Self-motivated with a practical approach to problem solving and systems development, applicants will require strong written and verbal communications and be able to communicate effectively with staff, students or managers with widely differing levels of technical understanding. Working as part of a team on major projects, they will, subject to experience, be expected to take lead responsibility on smaller projects in areas.
The successful candidate will possess proven application development experience in a modern development environment, experience of end user training and knowledge and experience of SQL query programming.
In addition, at grade 8, they will have comprehensive knowledge and experience of the application software development life cycle, experience of business process analysis and user requirements elicitation and experience of applying LEAN principle in process improvement.
