Academic SectionThe Academic Section is part of the University's Professional Services and is headed by the Academic Registrar. The Section is responsible for managing all aspects of student and academic administration in partnership with Departments, Schools and Faculties. The Section plays a central role in delivering the University's commitment to excellence in education across the institution through the development and implementation of the University's Education Strategy, including the annual Education Action Plans, leading the delivery of University-wide projects and the development, review and implementation of effective policy in support of the University's academic mission. The Section is also the guardian of the student experience and leads, promotes and embeds the institutional commitment to putting students at the heart of everything we do.Working in partnership with the Academic Registrar's Office, the main directorates of the Academic Section are: Academic Services and Student Life. The Student Life directorate draws together key elements of the student experience, particularly those relating to the educational aspects of student life and student success. This includes Student Support (including wellbeing, accessibility services, residence life, student finance, chaplaincy, the Student Services Hubs), Employability and Careers and Student Engagement.Duties of the RoleWorking as part of a busy team, you will support all aspects of new and returning student registration across all three campuses and, where appropriate, for the University's partner institutions. Working closely with the Systems Development Team, and the Student Information Team you will support system processes and provide organisational support for registration events throughout the year. You will be expected to provide initial responses to students and staff in response to enquiries received by telephone and email, along with supporting the recruitment process for temporary staff and maintaining the web pages relating to student registration.The post holder will also play a role in supporting other projects undertaken by the Registration Office throughout the year as part of continuous improvement. Skills and qualifications requiredThe successful candidate will possess a minimum of 5 GCSE passes at grades A-C or equivalent, including English Language and Mathematics as well as A Levels or NVQ Level 3 qualification or substantial relevant experience.You will have a good level of IT literacy including use of Microsoft Word and Excel as well as experience of or evidence of the ability to learn to use bespoke databases. You will have excellent communications skills both written and oral and be able to create effective working relationships with a range of people at differing levels of seniority. Excellent organisational skills, working accurately and with attention to detail and remaining calm under pressure when dealing with multiple time sensitive priorities are essential for this post. Your customer service skills will enable you to deal with a range of enquiries whilst maintaining confidentiality and acting with discretion to uphold the detailed policies and procedures in place within the University whilst adding value to the overall student experience.At the University of Essex internationalism is central to who we are and what we do.
