The School of Health and Social Care (HSC)
The School of Health and Social Care has an excellent reputation for teaching and research. Our academic members of staff include occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, psychological therapists, nurses, social workers, oral health practitioners and sociologists. The School is run over two campuses; Southend and Colchester. Academic staff are supported by a team of administrative staff based at both Colchester and Southend campuses.

The School is seeking to appoint a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer to take an active part in the development and delivery of research methodology teaching and its applications in health systems/ service and policy research.
Duties of the Role
The successful candidate will have expertise in applying quantitative analytical skills to the study of health systems, services, policy and determinants, contributing to and leading across a range of research projects. Teaching will cover a range of topics such as medical statistics, health/social epidemiology, or health/social demography. This role will require management, administration and organisation alongside support of students on our existing programmes, and generally enhancing our research-led teaching.
You will design and deliver learning in creative and innovative ways appropriate to the subject area and level, engage in individual and/or collaborative research activity resulting in internationally excellent publications that is in keeping with REF criteria and provide leadership in teaching of quantitative research methods and dissertation supervision across all areas.
In addition, at Senior Lecturer level, you will contribute to the development of the University’s national and international profile through excellent research.

Qualifications and Skills required
The successful candidate will have a relevant doctoral level research degree or equivalent professional experience or practice (or close to completion for Lecturer level) and will have Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, or the ability to gain professional recognition at this or a higher level if appropriate.
At Lecturer level, you will evidence of a clear publication plan for submission to future Research Excellence Framework (REF) programmes. At the Senior Lecturer level, you will be required to provide evidence of an established and internationally recognised research profile and have strong track record of published academic output at international levels of recognition with evidence of a clear publication plan for submission to future Research Excellence Framework (REF) programmes.
In addition, it is expected of you to have experience in teaching quantitative research methodology and dissertation supervision.
