The School of Sport, Rehabilitation and Exercise Sciences The School of Sport, Rehabilitation and Exercise Sciences is a new department at the University of Essex bringing together physiotherapy, sports therapy, and sports and exercise sciences, and also including the Human Performance Unit. An opportunity has arisen for the School to seek a Laboratory Technician.Duties of the RoleThe Laboratory Technician will support the running of the laboratories in the School of Sport, Rehabilitation and Exercise Sciences, providing support to staff and students using the facilities and actively managing the equipment located within the laboratories.Responsibilities will include preparing and assisting with the running of student practical classes, providing training to students and academic staff, producing guidance materials, ordering equipment and supplies and maintaining accurate records relating to equipment and software.This post will provide additional term-time support for our laboratory technician team. The successful applicant will be required to work full-time (36 hours per week) for 26 weeks of the year, to include the Autumn Term (September/October to December) and the Spring Term (January to March/April).Qualifications and Skills requiredThe successful candidate will hold a qualification in Science or related disciplines, or a qualification as a Laboratory Technician. You will also have experience of working within a laboratory setting and have familiarity with a range of life sciences equipment.Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to use IT hardware and software are essential for this post, along with demonstrable practical and technical skills.At the University of Essex internationalism is central to who we are and what we do.
