Department
Make Happen is a collaboration between a group of HE institutions, FE Colleges, Schools, Local Authorities and charities with a single purpose to raise aspirations and widen participation in higher education throughout Essex.
Part of the Uni Connect programme, funded by the Office for Students, Make Happen aim to increase participation in areas
of Essex where progression to Higher Education is lower than expected given the attainment of the region. The programme aims to support students from these areas in accessing impartial information, advice and guidance to enable to them to make an informed choice about their future educational pathways.
Based at the University of Essex, Make Happen deliver outreach activity to schools and colleges both through an experienced team of practitioners as well as external providers, including our partner institutions.
Since the programme began in 2017 we have delivered over 1500 activities to 86000 unique learners from over 200 schools and colleges. This is an exciting opportunity to join a team committed to widening participation and raising aspiration into higher education across Essex.
Duties of the Role
You will be responsible for effectively implementing the evaluation strategy, developing and implementing evaluations and interpreting and reporting on insights. You will monitor returns for the Office for Students (the funding body) and implement targets for the partnership to work towards to ensure the aims of Uni Connect are met, whilst reporting findings to the Head of Make Happen. Improving evaluation practice across the sector is a key aim of the Uni Connect programme and this role will be key for implementing this for the Make Happen programme.
The Monitoring and Evaluation Officer forms part of the leadership team of Make Happen and is involved in supporting various processes across the team. This includes targeting, identifying new schools/colleges and implementing changes identified by evaluation.
Skills and qualifications required
It is essential that you have experience in the following; analysing and reporting on quantitative and qualitative data, managing complex monitoring and evaluation databases, designing logic models and/or theories of change for large and complex organisations, delivering against identified targets and objectives, and interrogating and analysing large data sets to produce reports.
Experience of designing, managing and implementing project evaluation is required to directly inform activity and evaluate the success and impact of activities delivered by the Make Happen partnership.
In addition to this, you will have excellent communication, IT and numeracy skills, along with the ability to write reports and communicate project outcomes and high quality data in a variety of formats, and to a wide range of stakeholders.
This role is crucial for the partnership to evidence impact for continued funding in the future.
This post is fixed-term from 26 April 2021 until 31 July 2022, due to a temporary funding source.
