Department of Mathematical Sciences (DMS) This is an exciting opportunity to join the Department of Mathematical Sciences (DMS). The Department is a growing and vibrant department in the Faculty of Science and Health. DMS is internationally known for its research in a range of areas, and offers an excellent education to its students.
The Department wishes to add capability to the Department’s existing research in data science, optimisation and statistics as well as open up and develop new research activities and is now seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Data Science.
Duties of the post
Duties will include contributing to excellence in education by designing and delivering substantive and effective teaching and learning support, at undergraduate and postgraduate levels; engaging in individual and/or collaborative research activity (resulting in internationally excellent publications) that is in keeping with REF criteria; supervising postgraduate taught students appropriate for the discipline; and producing research outputs for publication at acceptable levels of volume and academic excellence and disseminating the results of research and scholarship through appropriate Knowledge Exchange activities.
The post will involve teaching on our actuarial science and finance, data science and statistics and mathematics and its applications courses at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.

Qualifications and Skills required
The successful candidate will have a relevant doctoral level research degree in Data Science or Optimisation or Statistics or related discipline or equivalent professional experience or practice or be close to completion of PhD, a degree in Data Science, Optimisation, Statistics, or related discipline and Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, or the ability to gain professional recognition at this or a higher level if appropriate.
You will have proven experience in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels, or demonstrable potential to engage in teaching and learning support in Higher Education in imaginative, engaging and innovative ways; evidence of a clear publication plan for submission to future Research Excellence Framework (REF) programmes; and the ability to conduct and develop independent, high-quality research. In addition, established collaborative links in the data science industry is essential for this post.
