DepartmentThese posts are based within the Outreach team which is part of Communications and External Relations. Communications and External Relations is one of the seven main professional services section in the University, and is responsible for co-ordinating the way in which the University relates to the outside world. Headed by the Director of Communications and External Relations, and with staff of around 115, the section has specific responsibility for the recruitment and admission of all students, marketing, media relations and communications, outreach, fundraising, relations with alumni and arts on campus.
Duties of the RoleThe Outreach Assistants will have to demonstrate considerable initiative as they will be expected to represent the University at a range of events throughout the duration of their contract. Initially the post-holder will work closely with the other Outreach staff, but it is anticipated that within a short time they will be able to represent the University without supervision. From time to time they will be required to work with other staff in the Communications and External Relations Section, senior members of academic staff, and current students on Outreach visits, and should feel confident in relating to a wide range of people.
We are seeking two Outreach Assistants; one role will support the delivery of a progressive project and the V16 Project (Jobpack A below) and the other will work as part of the Make Happen team (Jobpack B below). Skills and qualifications requiredWe are looking for an individual with experience of working with young people who can deliver outreach activities in accordance with the University of Essex Access Agreement 2017-18. The post-holder must be organised, self-motivated and have experience of delivering educational activities. A degree or relevant qualification is required as well as an ability to communicate to a range of audiences.
