Essex PathwaysEssex Pathways Department is a gateway to the University of Essex, helping students who have not met our standard entry requirements to grow in confidence, unlock their potential, and nurture their ambitions so they can progress in academic study. We provide undergraduate pathway routes to degree courses and equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed on their chosen course. This is an exciting opportunity to join the Essex Pathways Department as we are expanding our provision to Psychology pathways starting in October 2019. Appointment to this post will be made at Lecturer level.Duties of the RoleThe successful candidate will be expected to engage effectively in substantive teaching and learning support roles in the Department; to design, plan and deliver the Psychology modules in creative and innovative ways and to select appropriate methods of assessment and feed back to learners in evidence-informed ways appropriate to the foundation year level.In addition, you will be expected to be proactive within the Department and engage in activities beyond your own education duties; and to collaborate with colleagues on course development and curriculum changes as appropriate to career stage.A full list of key responsibilities and main duties (Education, Leadership and Citizenship, and Scholarship and Professional Practice) can be found within the job pack.Skills and Qualifications requiredThe successful candidate will hold a relevant doctoral level degree in Psychology or will be close to completion or have equivalent professional experience or practice and will either already be a member of the Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy or have the ability to become a member within the probationary period.You will have proven experience in teaching at foundation year level and undergraduate levels, or have demonstrable potential to engage in teaching and learning support in Higher Education, and you will have experience of contributing to designing and planning learning activities. A clear understanding of how students learn both generally and within their subject area is essential, along with strong communication skills and the ability to engage with and motivate students.Please note that this is a permanent, part-time post (21.6 hours per week) on an ASE (teaching) contract and the expected start date is 1 August 2019 or as close to this thereafter.At the University of Essex internationalism is central to who we are and what we do.
