The Department of Economics provides a vibrant research environment and has a strong collegial culture. It is a growing department, currently comprising more than 50 full-time academics, with distinctive clusters in microeconomics, macroeconomics, applied economics and econometrics. Applied researchers based in the Economics Department have typically strong research collaboration with other economists in the Institute of Social and Economic Research (ISER). Duties of the Role
The purpose of this post is to enhance the department’s research profile and to both contribute to and lead in developing the research in economics within the department; to develop and actively engage in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision; and to extend the department’s profile regionally, nationally and internationally through collaboration with other institutions.
The post-holder will provide strategic leadership in education; build up a sustained and effective record of impact at a strategic level in relation to teaching and learning; make a substantial contribution to the international profile of the University through the generation of internationally excellent research, scholarship and teaching; pursue research that is world leading in terms of originality, significance and rigour, in keeping with the REF criteria; and generate substantial research income commensurate with subject area norms.
You will also be expected to provide leadership in ensuring your own research and that of others in your department generates impact beyond the academic sphere in keeping with the REF criteria, and undertake senior leadership responsibilities as agreed with the Dean.
The post-holder will undertake a full range of Education, Research and Leadership and Citizenship responsibilities as detailed in the Professor (ASER) job pack.
Qualifications and Skills required
Applicants should hold a PhD in Economics. You will be expected to demonstrate internationally recognised leadership in your chosen field of research; evidence a strong record of research and publication in leading international journals, with a clear publication plan for submission to future Research Excellence Framework (REF) programmes; have experience of leadership in attracting significant research funds; demonstrate excellence in delivering and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level; and experience in motivating and supervising students up to PhD level.
