Applications for the Dean of Postgraduate Research and Education are invited from current academic members of staff appointed to the post of Professor, Reader or Senior Lecturer (Ordinance 8). Please note we are unable to consider applications from non-University of Essex employees.
The Dean of Postgraduate Research and Education plays a crucial role in delivering the University's strategic objectives for postgraduate taught and postgraduate research education across the three Faculties. They work closely with the Pro-Vice-Chancellor - Education to support the development and delivery of institutional strategy and policy for postgraduate education and provides strategic leadership to support the delivery of a transformational educational experience for all the University's postgraduate students, working closely with colleagues in faculties, departments and Professional Services. The Dean also acts as a senior academic representative of the University on postgraduate matters both internally and externally.
The successful candidate will have extensive experience of academic regulations, policies and procedures within the University together with a broader understanding of the policy issues affecting teaching and research across the higher education sector. You will be able to demonstrate confident leadership skills and the ability to engage with a wide and varied portfolio of partnership arrangements. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required, as well as the ability to influence, consult and build effective working relationships with staff at all levels.
