Department of Mathematical Sciences (DMS) This is an exciting opportunity to join the Department of Mathematical Sciences (DMS). The Department is a growing and vibrant department in the Faculty of Science and Health. DMS is internationally known for its research in a range of areas, and offers an excellent education to its students.
The Department wishes to appoint two full-time, fixed-term Lecturers in the area of Actuarial Science and Finance (one position until 30 September 2021) and Data Science, Optimisation and Statistics (one position until 31 March 2022).
Duties of the post
These posts will involve teaching on our actuarial science and finance, data science and statistics and mathematics and its applications courses at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
Duties will include engaging successfully and effectively in substantive teaching and learning support roles in the Department; designing, planning and delivering learning across a range of modules or within subject area, in creative and innovative ways appropriate to the subject area and level; developing and producing learning materials and disseminating the results of scholarly activity; and supervising postgraduate taught students appropriate for the discipline.

Qualifications and Skills required
The successful candidate will have a master level degree in Actuarial Science and Finance or Data Science, Optimisation or Statistics or related discipline or equivalent professional experience or practice and will have Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, or the ability to gain professional recognition at this or a higher level if appropriate.
You will have substantial experience in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels, or demonstrable potential to engage in teaching and learning support in, engaging and innovative ways; experience of designing and planning of learning activities; a clear understanding of how students learn both generally and within their subject/disciplinary area(s); and the ability to engage in knowledge exchange and outreach activities and a willingness to mentor colleagues to do the same.
