Internal Audit, Finance SectionThe prime responsibility of the Internal Audit team is to provide the University's Council and senior management with assurance on the adequacy and effectiveness of the University's risk management, control and governance arrangements. The team is attached to the Finance Section which is part of the University's Professional Services and our remit covers all areas of work that the University undertakes, whether in academic departments or professional services, and covers all campuses.
Duties of the RoleWe are looking for a skilled and experienced internal auditor to join a small dedicated team responsible for providing an effective, efficient and well-regarded internal audit service to the University of Essex (and University of Suffolk under a cost sharing arrangement).
Duties include carrying out a range of audits in line with agreed procedures and applicable professional standards to specified deadlines with minimum supervision; identifying and agreeing cost effective and practical solutions to address any control weaknesses; and researching and interpreting the implications of professional and sector developments on internal audit.
Skills and qualifications requiredYou will need to be a fully qualified CIIA internal auditor or CCAB qualified accountant with evidence of continuing professional development.
Proven practical experience of internal auditing is essential as is the capacity to work autonomously and on your own initiative to meet deadlines and objectives. You will need excellent written and oral communication skills; be able to negotiate with and influence others; operate confidently in a complex and changing environment and have the ability to analyse, interpret and clearly communicate complex issues to academic and professional colleagues.
This is a fixed-term, full-time post from March 2018 until March 2019 to cover a period of maternity leave.
