Edge Hotel SchoolThe Edge Hotel School is a department of the University of Essex that delivers undergraduate courses in Hospitality and Events Management. The School is unique in that students undertake part of their education in the Wivenhoe House, a commercial 4 star hotel which is situated adjacent to the School. Students are not only involved in the delivery of upmarket service to the public through the hotel but they also analyse and evaluate the data, statistics and management information as part of their academic and theoretical classes. The School has an excellent reputation for 'industry engaged education' and members of industry are frequently involved in student centred activities and learning.The School is now seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Hospitality and Events Management.Duties of the RoleThe successful candidate will be expected to engage effectively in substantive teaching and learning support roles in the School; design, plan and deliver learning across a range of modules in creative and innovative ways appropriate to the subject area and level and to participate in knowledge exchange activity. You will act as a personal tutor and join a team of motivated lecturers who are engaged in bringing commercial experiences from the hospitality industry to student education as well as the opportunity to undertake research within an operational hotel. In addition, you will engage with the Wivenhoe House Hotel to assist and support student learning as well as their commercial and practical experience.A full list of key responsibilities and main duties (Education, Leadership and Citizenship and Scholarship and Practice) can be found within the job pack.Skills and qualifications requiredThe successful candidate will have a relevant Masters level degree, or a doctoral level degree in Hospitality and Events Management, and a proven academic and/or professional background within hospitality/events. You will have experience working independently in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels, or demonstrable potential to engage in teaching and learning support in engaging and innovative ways, along with a sustained engagement in continuing professional development in relevant subjects/disciplines and their pedagogies.Strong communication skills, both written and verbal are essential for this post, along with the ability and willingness to engage in knowledge exchange and outreach activities.Please note appointment to this post will be made on an ASE Lecturer contract.At the University of Essex internationalism is central to who we are and what we do.
