The School of Health and Social Care
The School of Health and Social Care has an excellent reputation for teaching and research. Our academic members of staff include occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, psychological therapists, nurses, social workers, oral health practitioners and sociologists. The School is run over two campuses; Southend and Colchester. Academic staff are supported by a team of administrative staff based at both Colchester and Southend campuses.
In April 2017, we were awarded a silver Athena SWAN award, which recognises the commitment the School has toward equality and development of an inclusive culture, promoting dignity and respect. These are, of course, qualities that are also endorsed by the values of the NHS constitution with which all staff and students engage.
We are now looking to appoint three Lecturers in Nursing.
Duties of the Role The purpose of these Lecturer posts will be to play an active part in the delivery and development of the nursing programmes in the School. You will complement the existing team in the delivery of the innovative pre-registration programmes in Adult nursing or Mental Health nursing based on the Colchester and/ or Southend Campus. For the Grade 8 ASE post, duties will include engaging effectively in substantive teaching and learning support roles in the School, and developing a broad understanding of how such activities support student learning and design, plan and deliver learning in creative and innovative ways appropriate to the subject area and level.
For the Grade 9 ASE post, candidates are expected to engage in individual and/or collaborative scholarship and professional practice activity which contributes to an excellent standard of publications and engage successfully and effectively in substantive teaching and learning support roles in the School.
In addition, for Grade 9 ASER contracts, you will develop a research agenda, which pursues individual and/or collaborative research objectives and produce research outputs for publication

Skills and qualifications required The successful candidates will hold a relevant doctoral level degree in Nursing or equivalent professional experience or practice (or be close to completion for G8 ASE). You will have fellowship of the Higher Education Academy or the ability to gain professional recognition at this or a higher level if appropriate plus NMC registration as an Adult Nurse or Mental Health Nurse.
It is essential that candidates have a commitment to uphold the NMC Code of Conduct, Performance and Ethics and to exhibit professional behaviours and attitudes in keeping with NHS values. Along with having experience in nursing and the ability to keep up to date with the current practice of nursing, teaching and legislation.
In addition, for the Grade 9 post, candidates would be expected to have substantial experience in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels, or demonstrable potential to engage in teaching and learning support in, engaging and innovative ways. For ASER contracts, you will have a clear publication plan for submission to future Research Excellence Framework (REF) programmes and evidence of a research agenda, engagement in high-quality research activity and a developing research profile.
We have number of positions available; within both Adult and Mental Health, two 1FTE (36 hours per week) and one 0.6FTE (21.6 hour per week) across both our Southend and Colchester campus, please state within the application which campus and either Adult or Mental Health Nursing.
Please also note on your application which level contract you are applying for and note if you are applying ASE level, you will not need to submit a research statement or a three-year funding plan.
