We are now seeking to appoint a Part-time Lecturer in Psychotherapy
and Counselling. This is a permanent position for 21.6 hours per week starting from 1 August 2019, or as soon as possible thereafter. You will take up a teaching role supporting the delivery of our innovative FdA/BA Therapeutic Communication and Therapeutic Organisations programme at our Colchester Campus and contribute to our Graduate Diploma and/or MA in Psychodynamic Counselling, and observation modules in our BA Childhood Studies.
Duties of the Role
The purpose of the role is to contribute to teaching in the areas of Therapeutic Communication and Therapeutic Organisations, Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychoanalytic Observation and Reflective Practice.
Duties will include teaching on the FdA/BA Therapeutic Communication and Therapeutic Organisations; teaching Observation and Reflective Practice in BA Childhood Studies; supervising and supporting UG and MA students in their research projects; and contributing to the development of new programmes in counselling, where appropriate.
Key responsibilities at this level involve contributing to excellence in education by designing and delivering substantive and effective teaching and learning support, at undergraduate and postgraduate levels; engaging in individual and/or collaborative scholarship and professional practice activity which contributes to an excellent standard of publications; undertaking leadership duties related to pedagogic research and education appropriate to career stage; and enhancing the scholarly reputation of the Department and the University by contact with the wider academic community and the dissemination of knowledge via public communication and other activities.
The post-holder will undertake a full range of Education, Leadership and Citizenship, and Scholarship and Professional Practice duties as detailed in the Lecturer (ASE) job pack.
Qualifications and Skills required
The successful candidate will hold a relevant Masters level degree in Psychoanalysis, Psychotherapy, Counselling, or equivalent professional experience or practice. In addition, you will need to be a member of the British Psychoanalytic Council, the Council for Psychoanalysis and Jungian Analysis (a college of the UK Council for Psychotherapy), the Association of Child Psychotherapists the British Association of Psychotherapy and Counselling or an equivalent organisation. The post-holder will also need to be a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy or the ability to gain professional recognition at this or a higher level if appropriate, and hold a qualification as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist or psychodynamic counsellor.
You will have proven experience in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels, or demonstrable potential to achieve this and a commitment to the on-going evaluation of your teaching and an ability to do this effectively, with the support of others where appropriate. In addition, you will have experience of clinical work as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist or psychodynamic counsellor and possess knowledge and capacity to teach Psychoanalytic Observation and Reflective Practice.
A successful candidate will have the ability and willingness to play an active part in the administration of the department, and the willingness to become involved and take an equal share in extra-curricular activities within the department (e.g. open days; research student conferences; school visits etc.).
This is a permanent, part-time role on an ASE (teaching only) contract. As an enabling academic environment for all of our students and staff we are committed to the principles of Athena Swan and equality for all. We particularly welcome applications from those who identify as female or non-binary and those from an ethnic minority to improve their representation in the Department.
