The School of Health and Social Care
Our academic members of staff include health policy, service and systems researchers, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, psychological therapists, nurses, social workers, oral health practitioners, psychologists, and sociologists. The School is run over two campuses: Southend and Colchester. Academic staff are supported by a team of administrative staff based at both Colchester and Southend campuses.
The School has an excellent reputation for innovative educational delivery of a range of professional programmes in combination with an excellent research track record in social scientific approaches to the study of health, illness, and wellbeing. The school offers a unique context for the development and application of novel approaches to the study of a range of health and social care contexts, all underpinned by a concern for understanding the wider social contexts in which health, illness and wellbeing are located. We have excellent partnerships with NHS, private and third sector organisations which facilitate and underpin our excellence in applied research and impact. We aim for excellence in research and in education and are looking for candidates who can contribute to both.
The School is currently going through exciting changes and expansion, with an increase in student numbers, an intention to prepare for submission to Unit Assessment 3 (research focusing on Allied Health Professions, Dentistry, Nursing and Pharmacy) for the next Research Excellence Framework (REF), and the introduction of new courses, including the new Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner Apprenticeship, and Masters in Global Public Health. We are also expanding and building new and innovative areas for student study, including new clinical skills spaces, consultation rooms and study areas.
As part of this exciting expansion, we are now looking to appoint a Lecturer in Clinical Psychology. We particularly welcome applicants with expertise in research methods.
Duties of the Role
You will take an active part in the delivery and development of the Clinical Psychology programme in the School. This role will require management, administration and organisation alongside support of students on our existing programme and deliver teaching on research methodology in Clinical Psychology.
Duties will include engaging effectively in substantive teaching and learning support roles in the School, and develop a broad understanding of how such activities contribute to high-quality student learning, supervising student projects, fieldwork and placements and participating in, building and developing internal and external networks and establish links with relevant academic and professional bodies, contacts and employers.
In addition, you will also develop a research agenda, which pursues individual and/or collaborative research objectives and produce research outputs for publication.
Your ongoing development is important to us, and you will have the opportunity to work closely with your Head of Division, the School’s Director of Staff Development and Wellbeing, and the Dean, to enhance your potential and achieve your aims.

Qualifications and Skills requiredThe successful candidate will have a relevant doctoral level research degree, preferably in clinical psychology, or equivalent professional experience or practice and have Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, or the ability to gain professional recognition at this or a higher-level if appropriate.
Experience of contributing to designing and planning learning activities, developing effective learning environments and approaches to student/client support and guidance; experience in clinical psychology; and strong communication skills, both written and verbal are all essential for this post.
In addition, it is essential that you have a clear publication plan for submission to future Research Excellence Framework (REF) programmes and evidence of a research agenda, engagement in high-quality research activity and a developing research profile.
