The School of Health and Social Care.The School has an excellent reputation for teaching and research in health and social care. Our academic members of staff include occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, psychological therapists, nurses, social workers, oral health practitioners and sociologists. The School is run over two campuses, based at Southend and Colchester. Academic staff are supported by a team of administrative staff based at both Colchester and Southend campuses.

The School is currently going through exciting changes and expansion, with an increase in student numbers, an intention to prepare for submission to Unit Assessment 3 (research focusing on Allied Health Professions, Dentistry, Nursing and Pharmacy) for the next Research Excellence Framework (REF), and the introduction of new courses, including the new Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner Apprenticeship, and Masters in Global Public Health. We are also expanding and building new and innovative areas for student study, including new clinical skills spaces specifically for our Occupational Therapy students, consultation rooms and study areas.
As part of this exciting expansion, we are now looking to appoint a Lecturer in PWP on a part-time basis. This post will require management, administration and organisation alongside support of students on our existing programmes, and generally enhancing our research-led teaching in PWP.
Duties of the Role The purpose of this post is to be actively involved in the delivery and development of the PWP programmes in the School. You may also have the opportunity to input into our Continuing Professional Development (CPD) portfolio, as well as into other courses offered across the School.
Your ongoing development is important to us, and you will have the opportunity to work closely with your Head of Division, the School’s Director of Staff Development and Wellbeing, and the Dean, to enhance your potential and achieve your aims.
For ASE Grade 8 post, duties will include engaging effectively in substantive teaching and learning support roles in the Department, and developing a broad understanding of how such activities support student learning and design, plan and deliver learning (modules, programmes of study, etc.) in creative and innovative ways appropriate to the subject area and level.
For the ASER Grade 9 post, candidates are expected to engage in individual and/or collaborative research activity that is in keeping with REF criteria, generate external research funding, including in collaboration with colleagues, appropriate in scale to career stage and subject area norms and develop a research agenda.
Both posts will require management, administration, supervision, and support for staff alongside, assessment and teaching of students on our existing modules, and generally enhancing our research-led teaching.

Skills and qualifications required The successful candidate will hold a relevant degree or equivalent professional experience or practice or be close to completion of PhD and have a qualification in Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner and/or qualification at Masters Level in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
Experience of working independently in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels, or demonstrable potential to engage in teaching and learning support in engaging and innovative ways and strong communication skills, both written and verbal are essential for this post. Along with experience in Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner practice and/or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
In addition, for the Grade 9 ASER post, candidates would be expected to be actively engaged in research and evidence a clear publication plan for submission to future Research Excellence Framework (REF) programmes.
