Academic SectionThe Academic Section is part of the University's Professional Services and is headed by the Academic Registrar. The Section is responsible for managing all aspects of student and academic administration in partnership with Departments, Schools and Faculties. The Section plays a central role in delivering the University's commitment to excellence in education across the institution through the development and implementation of the University's Education Strategy, including the annual Education Action Plans, leading the delivery of University-wide projects and the development, review and implementation of effective policy in support of the University' academic mission. The Section is also the guardian of the student experience and leads, promotes and embeds the institutional commitment to putting students at the heart of everything we do.Duties of the RoleThe Academic Section is seeking a professional and enthusiastic individual to fulfil the role of Summer Schools Co-ordinator to support the establishment and management of the new Summer Schools Hub. Working with academic colleagues and leaders, members of the University Steering Group and Professional Services teams across the University, this exciting new role will support the University's ambitious growth agenda and ongoing commitments to interdisciplinary and excellence in both education and research. The Summer Schools Hub will lead the management and future development of our Summer School provision, ensuring appropriate consistency in approach, efficiency and scaling up for existing provision, reinforcing and strengthening the links with our three existing flagship Summer Schools: Essex Summer School for Social Science Data Analysis; Institute for Analytics and Data Science Summer School and Human Rights Centre Summer School. The Hub will also lead the development of new Summer School activity across a range of areas.Responsibilities of this post will include providing high level administrative leadership, management and support for the work of the Summer Schools Hub and Summer Schools Manager, managing the day to day activities of the Summer Schools Hub and leading and supporting on various projects. You will also be required to lead on the implementation of communications and branding for the Summer School provision There may be a requirement to travel to other University locations and partner institutions in the UK and on occasion overseas. Qualification and Skills requiredApplicants should possess an honours degree or substantial equivalent experience, a minimum of 3 A-Levels or equivalent and 5 GCSE passes at A-C or equivalent, including English Language and Mathematics at Grade B or above.The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge or experience of higher education administration or an equivalent context. A strong team player, you will bring excellent organisational skills alongside an ability to deal flexibly with a wide range of responsibilities and multiple priorities. Experience of face to face customer service or enquiries, using bespoke databases and other electronic systems and budget management are all essential. You will also possess excellent communication skills, including a high standard of written English, and be able to enable to establish productive working relationships with a wide range of people.
