The Academic Section is responsible for managing all aspects of student and academic administration and plays a central role in delivering the University’s commitment to excellence in education across the University. The PGRE team manages processes and procedure relating to all forms of Doctoral / Postgraduate Research (PGR) provision and for all students studying at PGR level. This encompasses students across all academic departments of the University, and at a number of collaborative partner institutions. The team also provides support for externally-funded Doctoral Training Partnerships and for PGR student skills development - specifically via the University’s research training scheme, Proficio. The Postgraduate Research Education Officer works as part of a team and the allocation of responsibilities for departments / partner institutions will be determined by the Senior PGRE Manager.
The Role
We’re looking for a professional and enthusiastic individual to fulfil this role within the PGRE Team. The postholder provides support, expertise and guidance to colleagues across the academic departments, to PGR students, and to members of the Postgraduate Research Education team. Being the initial point of contact for providing advice and information to students and staff at the University and at Partner institutions; triaging enquiries and escalating to relevant team members as appropriate. The role focuses on student casework, covering registration; attendance and progress; examination; academic appeals; and academic offences. Also, contributing to events and projects to develop existing provision for research students and improve the student experience.

Please note that continuation of a job share arrangement is dependent on there being two people available to undertake the arrangement.
Qualification and Skills required
To apply, you need to have excellent administrative and organisational skills, and be able to deal flexibly with a wide range of responsibilities. You will be able to develop productive working relationships with colleagues at all levels of an organisation, seeking and offering clear advice and guidance.
Applicants should possess English Language and Mathematics GCSEs or equivalent and recent experience of working in a relevant administrative environment. Candidates will need to demonstrate excellent attention to detail and a commitment to high standards, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills. The ability to work well as part of a team, to work accurately and to remain calm under pressure are essential.
