The Department of Government at Essex are world leaders in political science, ranked top in the UK for research excellence (REF2014), 5th for politics in the UK (The Times Good University Guide 2018), top 10 in the world for political science and international relations according to the Centre for World University Rankings (2018), among the top
50 departments on the planet according to the QS World University Rankings.
Located within the Department of Government, the world-renowned Essex Summer School in Social Science Data Analysis has been bringing global-leading teachers and researchers from around the world to Essex for over 50 years to teach cutting-edge tools for social science data analysis and advanced statistical methods to answer key social, political and economic questions.
Duties of the Role
Key duties of the role include providing high-level administrative leadership, management and support for the Summer School; responsibility for managing the day-to-day operational activities of the Summer School, assisting with the strategic planning, co-ordinating marketing and admissions, budgetary management and acting as a liaison between the Summer School and the central Summer Schools Hub.
This is a full-time, year round post, with a peak period between the beginning of June to mid-August. During this period, you will be expected to work every day (Monday-Friday) which may include slightly longer hours if required as well as the need to work some Saturdays. Annual leave may be taken at any other time of the calendar year, subject to the approval of the Department.
Skills and qualifications required
The ideal candidate will have a University-level degree or equivalent substantial and relevant experience and excellent event management experience, with a proven ability to support large scale events and provide a high level of customer service. Experience of budget management and planning as well as experience of supervising or managing staff is essential.
