Lecturer in Clinical Psychology
As part of an exciting expansion in UK clinical psychology, we are looking to appoint a Lecturer in Clinical Psychology. We particularly welcome applicants with expertise in research methods.
The School of Health and Social Care
The School of Health & Social Care has an excellent reputation for teaching and research. Our academic members of staff include health policy, service and systems researchers, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, psychological therapists, nurses, social workers, oral health practitioners, psychologists, and sociologists. The School is run over two campuses: Southend and Colchester. Academic staff are supported by a team of administrative staff based at both Colchester and Southend campuses.
The School of Health and Social Care has an excellent reputation for innovative educational delivery of a range of professional programmes in combination with an excellent research track record in social scientific approaches to the study of health, illness, and wellbeing. The school offers a unique context for the development and application of novel approaches to the study of a range of health and social care contexts, all underpinned by a concern for understanding the wider social contexts in which health, illness and wellbeing are located. We aim for excellence in research and in education and are looking for candidates who can contribute to both.
The School is currently going through exciting changes and expansion, with an increase in student numbers, an intention to prepare for submission to Unit Assessment 3 (research focusing on Allied Health Professions, Dentistry, Nursing and Pharmacy) for the next Research Excellence Framework (REF), and the introduction of new courses, including the new Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner Apprenticeship, and Masters in Global Public Health. We are also expanding and building new and innovative areas for student study, including new clinical skills spaces, consultation rooms and study areas.
Duties of the Role
You will take an active part in the delivery and development of the Clinical Psychology doctoral programme in the School. This role will require management, administration and organisation alongside support of students on our existing programme and delivery of teaching on research methodology in Clinical Psychology.
Duties will include engaging effectively in substantive teaching and learning support roles in the School, and develop a broad understanding of how such activities contribute to high-quality student learning, supervising student projects, fieldwork and placements and participating in, building and developing internal and external networks and establishing links with relevant academic and professional bodies, contacts and employers.
In addition, at ASER level, you will also develop a research agenda, which pursues individual and/or collaborative research objectives and produce research outputs for publication.
Your ongoing development is important to us, and you will have the opportunity to work closely with your Head of Division, the School’s Director of Staff Development and Wellbeing, and the Dean, to enhance your potential and achieve your aims.

Qualifications and Skills requiredThe successful candidate will have a doctoral level research degree relevant to clinical psychology and have or be able to gain Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.
Interest in contributing to designing and planning learning activities, developing effective learning environments and approaches to student/client support and guidance in a clinical psychology doctoral training programme, along with strong communication skills, both written and verbal are all essential for this post.
In addition, for applicants applying for the ASER post, it is essential that you have a clear publication plan for submission to future Research Excellence Framework (REF) programmes and evidence of a research agenda, engagement in high-quality research activity and a developing research profile.
