Catalyst ProjectThe Catalyst project at the University of Essex is funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), and provides a unique opportunity to bring together the University's world leading expertise in data sharing and data analytics in the Data Research Centre, with Essex and Suffolk County Council's strength in policy innovation to address policy priorities of local and national importance.
This collaboration with both Councils and other Local Authority organisations will add value to their ongoing activity, helping them to integrate and manage data, and to derive insights and intelligence that inform service design and implementation. The University input will be focused on learning the needs of the Authorities with respect to programme evaluation and working with them to build the capacity to meet those needs.
The Evaluation Program of the Catalyst Project (University of Essex) is seeking to expand its team of expert researchers working in the area of program, impact and policy evaluation, based at our Colchester Campus, who will be working closely with partners in Councils and Local Authority organisations in the area and elsewhere.
Role and DutiesThis post will involve facilitating interactions with these organisations to:
The post-holder will be expected to support other colleagues in the writing of research papers, involving where applicable other researchers, and to be committed to the publication of research in academic outlets as well as making presentations at local events and national conferences. This support will build on an outstanding existing publication record which will provide a strong entry for the 2021 Research Excellence Framework.
Qualifications and SkillsApplicants are expected to hold a PhD in a relevant social science of quantitative discipline, or be in the final stages of completion.
Experience of working with quantitative date; using analytical software such as R, Stata, SAS or SPSS beyond beginner level; designing and conducting evaluations of programmes, projects, or initiatives; and using social media platforms for promoting academic research are all essential for the post.
We are seeking a candidate with an independent research reputation within a relevant field, with good interpersonal, communication and general management skills, and who has an aptitude for team and collaborative working, with both internal and external stakeholders.
Due to the nature of the role, the appointment will be subject to a staff vetting process including a Disclosure Scotland check.
The appointment for this post will be made as Senior Research Officer and is fixed-term until 30 June 2019 due to a temporary funding source.
