Academic SectionThe Academic Section is part of the University's Professional Services and is headed by the Academic Registrar. The Section is responsible for managing all aspects of student and academic administration in partnership with Departments, Schools and Faculties. The Section is also the guardian of the student experience and leads, promotes and embeds the institutional commitment to putting students at the heart of everything we do.Working in partnership with the Academic Registrar's Office, the main directorates of the Academic Section are: Academic Services and Student Life. The Student Life directorate draws together key elements of the student experience, particularly those relating to the educational aspects of student life and student success. This includes Student Support (including wellbeing, accessibility services, residence life, student finance, chaplaincy, the Student Services Hubs), Employability and Careers and Student Engagement.We are seeking to appoint an Employability Mentoring Coordinator to work within our award winning Employability & Careers Centre (E&CC). This is an exciting time of change and of strategic employability developments at the University, which the E&CC and the Academic Section as a whole are playing a key role in leading. The University of Essex has embarked on a major investment in employability that will bring about a step change in service delivery.Duties of the RoleThe Employability Mentoring Coordinator will join the Employer & Internships Team - part of the E&CC and will be responsible for leading, managing and developing the Employability Mentoring Programme. You will oversee the programme ensuring quality mentee / mentor relationships that positively impact the student experience, and embed employability mentoring at the University. You will also lead and support other diversity projects that seek to support underrepresented groups at the University including the Sprint programme and Rising Stars.You will develop and maintain key effective partnerships across the University and you will also be required to maintain and update your professional knowledge and promote the University to potential student applicants and other external audiences.Skills and Qualifications requiredThe successful candidate will hold a good honours degree (2:2 or above) or an equivalent level qualification. You will have a good understanding of mentoring practices and techniques, knowledge of the drivers for widening participation within higher education, experience of implementing and managing long-term projects, along with producing and delivering presentations and workshop activities. You will have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work on your own initiative in order to self-generate and contribute to new ideas for continuous improvement of the service. A good level of IT literacy and the ability to use all major software packages including Microsoft Office are also essential.This is a part time 0.80 FTE permanent role to be worked over four equal days.At the University of Essex internationalism is central to who we are and what we do.
