Department of EconomicsThe Department of Economics at the University of Essex is seeking to make one or more Professorial appointments. Applications are invited in any field of economics.
The Department of Economics is ranked 5th among all UK departments for research excellence (REF 2014). The University of Essex is also ranked in the top category for teaching excellence (TEF 2017). The Department of Economics provides a vibrant research environment and has a strong collegial culture. It is a growing department, currently comprising 48 full-time academics, of whom nearly one third are full professors, with distinctive clusters in microeconomics, macroeconomics, applied economics and econometrics. The Role and DutiesThe post-holder will be required to conduct research in any area of applied or theoretical economics, and undertake high quality teaching for modules in theoretical or applied economics. In addition, you will need to supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students' research projects and PhD students; submit research grant applications; provide academic leadership and mentoring to junior colleagues; and contribute to the effective administration of the Department.
Qualifications and SkillsApplicants should hold a PhD in Economics. You will be expected to demonstrate internationally recognised leadership in your chosen field of research; evidence a strong record of research and publication in leading international journals, with a clear publication plan for submission to future Research Excellence Framework (REF) programmes; have experience of leadership in attracting significant research funds; demonstrate excellence in delivering and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level; and experience in motivating and supervising students up to PhD level.
Skills in academic management and leadership of other staff; the ability to engage with and motivate undergraduate and postgraduate students; and a willingness to take on senior and administrative roles to contribute to the expansion plans of the Department are essential for this post.
