At Essex Law School, we take excellence in research and excellence in education equally seriously. New academic staff are supported to become fellows of the Higher Education Authority and we are a top 20 UK law school

We have a long-established 4-year LLB English and French Law (Maitrise/Master 1) 'double degree' course in which students spend two years in Essex followed by two years at one of our partners in France (Universite? Paris Ouest Nanterre La De?fense, Universite? Lyon 3 Jean Moulin, or Universite? Toulouse 1 Capitole). Approximately 50-60 students are admitted to the course each year.
The Role
This post combines teaching, research and academic administration.
The focus of the post is teaching first and second year undergraduates French constitutional and administrative law and methods specific to French law. This teaching is delivered in French. You will assess students through continuous assessment, coursework and examination. You will assist in the administration of the double degree, including student recruitment and supporting extracurricular activities. You will also contribute to teaching on a core LLB English law module, in English.
You will produce high quality and impactful research outputs. We encourage collaborative and multi-disciplinary projects. You will have clear plans to produce high quality scholarly work suitable for REF2021.
Alongside teaching and research, you'll have an administrative role in helping to run the double degree.
Qualifications and skills required
You will have or be near to completion of a PhD or be able to demonstrate an equivalent level of research expertise. You will have subject expertise in French constitutional law and/or French administrative law and experience of undergraduate teaching. You must have a high level of proficiency using both English and French languages in a professional context.
At the University of Essex internationalism is central to who we are and what we do. We are committed to being a cosmopolitan, internationally-oriented university that is welcoming to staff and students from all countries and a university where you can find the world in one place.
