School of Sport, Rehabilitation and Exercise SciencesThis is an exciting time to join our new School, which opened in August 2017. We offer academic provision in sports and exercise science, sports therapy, physiotherapy and associated areas, combined with significant new investment we intend to grow into a distinctive world leading group. Our sport and wellbeing research covers both health and exercise in the general population and the performance of elite athletes, and members of our teaching staff have provided sports science and therapeutic support at Olympic Games and World Championships.Duties of the RoleThe School of Sport, Rehabilitation and Exercise Sciences seeks to strengthen and expand its teaching research activities and is seeking to make a further appointment in the field of Sport, Rehabilitation and Exercise Sciences at Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level. Appointment will be made as either Lecturer or Senior Lecturer accordingly.The duties of this role at Lecturer level include, to engage effectively in substantive teaching and learning support roles in the Department, and to develop a broad understanding of how such activities contribute to high-quality student learning. Duties also include to supervise student projects, fieldwork and placements as well as to develop a research agenda which pursues individual and/or collaborative research objectives and proposals of high quality that will as a minimum meet the University's expectations for future Research Exercise Framework (REF) exercises.At Senior Lecturer level duties include to design and deliver a broad range of innovative teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels as well as to make significant research-led and pedagogically informed contributions to module/ curriculum design and development. Duties will also include to publish research outputs that are rated internationally excellent, which have significant impact in their field and to disseminate their results and scholarly findings in other appropriate and meaningful ways (e.g. at relevant national and international conferences) as well as to generate societal impact beyond the academic sphere and to contribute to impact case studies in keeping with REF criteria.Skills and qualifications requiredAt Lecturer level the candidate should hold or be close to completing a PhD in Sport and Exercise Science or equivalent professional experience or practice. You will also be a member of the Higher Education Academy or possess the ability to gain this at an appropriate level. The candidate should also have proven experience in teaching at undergraduate or post graduate levels or demonstrable potential to engage in teaching and learning support in Higher Education and evidence of a clear publication plan for future REF programmes. Your experience and research interests must complement and extend existing research in the School and have potential impact both in the UK and internationally. The ability to engage in impact, knowledge exchange and outreach activities and having a clear understanding of how students learn both generally and within their subject area is essential as are strong communication skills and a commitment to helping develop dynamic communities of research and education at the university.At Senior Lecturer Level the candidate should have relevant doctoral level research degree in Sport and Exercise Science or equivalent professional experience or practice as well as a sustained record of effectiveness in education at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, incorporating the organisation, leadership and/or management of specific aspects of provision.
