Job description
School of Sport, Rehabilitation & Exercise Sciences (SRES)
The School of Sport, Rehabilitation and Exercise Sciences was created in August 2017 bringing together sport and exercise sciences, physiotherapy, sports therapy and related activity. This presents exciting opportunities for new interdisciplinary collaborations and partnership working
with external agencies including a range of health practitioners.
Duties of the Role
We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Sports Coaching and Pedagogy to complement the existing staff and contribute to the very successful Sports Performance and Coaching Degree (BSc). We wish to develop the School's research in Sports Performance and Coaching and the post holder is expected to make a significant contribution to this aspiration. The post will also contribute to the delivery of learning and teaching within the School, primarily supporting the Sports Performance and Coaching educational provision.
Appointment will be made as Lecturer.
Skills and qualifications required
You must be an experienced Sports Coaching practitioner. You must have a background in coaching practise and coaching pedagogy. You must be able contribute to the research environment in our Development of Young People Through Sport, Health Exercise and Active Lifestyle and/or Sport Performance research groups.
Applicants should have a relevant doctoral level research degree (or be close to completion) in a topic related to sports coaching or performance analysis. You should also possess Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, or the ability to gain such recognition at this or a higher level if appropriate by the end your probationary period as well as a minimum level 3 coaching qualification (or be close to completion or equivalent) and evidence of a clear publication plan for submission to future Research Excellence Framework (REF) programmes.
You will have experience in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels, and of designing and planning learning activities. You will be able to demonstrate evidence of a research agenda, engagement in high-quality research activity and a developing research profile. Strong written and verbal communication skills are an essential requirement of the post.
The expected start date for this post is 01 October 2019 or as close thereafter as possible.
At the University of Essex internationalism is central to who we are and what we do. We are committed to being a cosmopolitan, internationally-oriented university that is welcoming to staff and students from all countries and a university where you can find the world in one place.
