University of Essex International College
Located on the University's campus in Colchester, the University of Essex International College will welcome its first students in September 2018. Providing new routes for international students to the University of Essex, the International College will deliver undergraduate Foundation programmes, International Year One programmes and Pre-Master's programmes to support students in progressing to one of the UK's leading institutions.
About the role
We are now looking for a dynamic leader for the University of Essex International College. This is an exciting opportunity to lead from the very beginning of an exciting project, driving industry leading standards in student pastoral and academic support and to build and lead a high-performance team.
As College Director at the University of Essex International College, you will be responsible for the leadership and direction of the College. Your focus will be to ensure that the College delivers an exceptional educational experience to each student - from the quality of the teaching through to the standard of facilities and to the high level of customer service from all staff in the College. You will also work to ensure that the budget is well managed, that operational and financial targets are met and that the relationships with the University of Essex and other key bodies such as UKVI and QAA are nurtured and maintained.
Main responsibilities
Reporting to the Kaplan International Pathway's Director of UK Colleges, you will have responsibility for:
- Managing the College Academic and College Services teams with direct line management responsibility for a number of senior staff members- Managing and developing the performance and day to day operations of the College to ensure effective and efficient delivery of all teaching, student support and associated services;
- Management of the College financials to ensure financial targets are met and forecasts produced in line with agreed timelines and annual budgets;
- Management and development of the relationship with the University of Essex to facilitate strong communications, forecasts, strong marketing links and discussions around collaborative projects, where appropriate;
- Overall allocation of resources within the College, working closely with the College academic team on staffing and timetabling;
- Ensuring the quality of the student experience at the College from the point of confirmation of place to completion of studies;
- Ensuring all quality assurance systems are properly implemented within the College, complying with Kaplan International Pathway Academic Rules and Regulations and quality assurance systems;
- Oversight of local HR, especially day to day management of College staff and direct management of all senior staff in the College;
- Management and development of internal relationships with key departments within Kaplan;
- Communication of key College and partner events with Kaplan senior management;
- Close liaison with the Sales and Marketing division to ensure sales messages and communications are up to date;
- Oversight of the annual College monitoring, review and strategic planning processes, in liaison with Sales team management and the central financial and HR functions;
- Contributing to the development, implementation, monitoring and review of the Kaplan International Pathway strategic plan;
- Representing Kaplan on appropriate committees and boards both internally and externally;
- Ensuring that the College is compliant with all UKVI regulations and that all staff are trained on this area and that compliance reports are produced as
- Ensuring that the college maintains Educational Oversight through preparation for reviews and monitoring visits and ensuring compliance with the expectations of the Quality Code.
- Contributing to the Kaplan International Pathway's College Executive Management Board and to specific Kaplan wide developments and projects as appropriate;
- Any other duties as required from time to time by Kaplan International Pathway's Director of Colleges and other senior members of management.
Candidate profile
You will be a high performer and enjoy the challenge of working in a dynamic environment and being involved in projects at an early stage of development. A substantial amount of management experience in the education, Pathway or EFL sector is essential for the post. In addition, to be considered for the role, you will need:
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification (a postgraduate degree or equivalent qualification would also be desirable)
- A strong knowledge and understanding of UK further and higher education
- An understanding of quality assurance systems
- Extensive experience of leading academic and administration academic teams in the higher education, pathway or EFL sector
- Knowledge of the needs of international students and experience of teaching and/or working with international students
- Strong project management and organisational skills
- Good financial planning and management skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and good communication skills
- Outstanding team skills, both as a leader and as a team player
- Commitment to improving and enhancing performance of teams and operations
- Strong customer service focus
- Ability and experience in managing budgets
- Experience of working to targets
