The Performance Sport Team has developed over the past few years to becoming a dominating force in Volleyball and Basketball. As a TASS delivery site and TASS Accredited Dual Career Site, we are nationally recognised for our commitment to support young talented athletes. The University is seeking its next new challenge in reaching the top 25 in British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) league tables and we have committed to developing 4 new focus teams each year for the next 4 years.
The University has a new strategy to become top 25 in BUCS and this role will solidify the partnership between the Student's Union and Essex Sport, working across both departments as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
The Role and duties
The successful person will be working alongside the Student Union, and will oversee the coaching team who are responsible for the BUCS 1st team, which will include planning and preparing programmes and training sessions for the BUCS 1st team.
Other duties will include evaluating all coaching sessions, attending BUCS fixtures, assist with activities associated with the recruitment process and attending termly athlete review meetings including the occasional performance sport staff meetings.
This post is part-time, fixed-term for 30 weeks during term-time only.
Qualifications and skills required
In order to be successful, you will hold a UKCC Level 2 as a minimum, also to have a UKCC Level 3 (or to be working towards this qualification).
You will have experience of coaching and/or playing in a high-performance netball environment, also detailed knowledge of technical and tactical aspects of netball.
You must possess excellent leadership and communication skills to build strong relationships with students and external bodies. Also portray a passion and enthusiasm for athlete-centred provision of coaching and support services.
The position requires enthusiasm and flexibility, ability to work independently and under pressure and a commitment to continuous professional development.
