Essex Business SchoolThe Accounting Group at Essex Business School has an international reputation in two largely overlapping lines of expertise in accounting research, namely (i) critical, social and qualitative approaches to the study of accounting and (ii) an interdisciplinary perspective of accounting, with a strong emphasis on the study of accounting in emerging and developing economies.
The Group hosts the British Accounting and Finance Association's (BAFA) special interest group on Accounting and Finance in Emerging Economies and the Journal of Accounting in Emerging Economies. In addition, there is an emerging cluster within the Group which relies on quantitative methods and market-based perspectives in the context of both developed and developing countries.
Within this context, the Group's research concentrates on four broad themes, namely (i) sustainability, social responsibility and corporate governance; (ii) (management) accounting change (in privatized, public and third sectors - social enterprises, NGOs); (iii) global development, corruption and accountability; (iv) reporting, accounting regulation and market-based accounting research.
