Job description
Essex Change Makers Programme
The Essex Change Makers Manager is a key member of Student Development (Career Services) team delivering the Essex Change Makers programme. This is an exciting opportunity to shape and deliver a programme to support our students to deliver social action and community based projects in an efficient and scalable approach aligned
to the priorities of the University Strategy.
The successful post holder will be committed to contributing to the Essex Change Makers 5-year programme, to review and deliver a new approach to implementing social action projects by engaging with students and staff as well as external stakeholders. They will be involved with planning, coordinating and monitoring student projects as well as leading on the set up of key areas within the programme, such as implementing policies, processes and systems. This will involve coordinating the initial scoping and consultation phase, identifying student projects and supporting their delivery. The post holder will be coordinating and engaging with a broad stakeholder community to deliver the programme successfully, in accordance with defined timescales.
You will be able to apply your skills, experience within the higher education environment, and demonstrate an understanding of the issues related to student development and community engagement. You will have exceptional communication, interpersonal and coordination skills with the ability to work as a team. You will be highly organised and able to manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines. You will be able to analyse situations and problems, and develop and implement solutions.
Duties of the Role
We are looking for someone with initiative, imagination and a desire to help deliver challenging projects within the Essex Change Makers programme in an integrated way. This is a full time role working across a range of departments within the University, ensuring effective alignment with existing teams. You will be involved in supporting the planning of student projects, monitoring and communicating progress of the Essex Change Makers programme. You will work closely with stakeholders across the University as well as externally to manage outcomes and support students through the programme to ensure annual completion of targets as part of the programme's strategy.
Skills and qualifications required
You will ideally have a degree or equivalent qualification/ experience and will have a track record of successfully managing or supporting projects. You will be used to working with a wide range of stakeholders and will be experienced at developing and writing reports. With excellent all-round communication skills, you will have proven ability to work alone or as part of a team and will be willing to highlight problems, identify issues and propose solutions. An understanding of project management principles and techniques would be useful as would experience of planning, monitoring and reporting on projects. The role is based in Colchester, but some travel to other campuses in Southend and Loughton may be required.
