This high-profile and influential post will make a critical contribution to enabling researchers to access large-scale government administrative data sources for academic and policy research. Timely access to such data is essential for the success of Administrative Data Research Network (ADRN) initiative https://adrn.ac.uk/ and this new senior post within the ADRN will be focussed on achieving this most pressing goal.The ADRN is a UK-wide partnership between universities, government departments and agencies, national statistics authorities, the third sector, funders and researchers. It helps researchers carry out social and economic research using linked, de-identified administrative data - information which is routinely collected by government organisations. The ADRN is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (www.esrc.ac.uk) until the autumn 2018 and this new University of Essex post will work within the Administrative Data Service (ADS) at the University of Essex.The successful candidate will be expected to identify key decision-makers and influencers for data sharing across government and within in each of the government departments / agencies in which relevant data is held, developing effective strategies, and lead successful negotiations. The post-holder will advise and report to the ADRN Board (based at the UK Statistics Authority in Londonhttps://www.statisticsauthority.gov.uk/national-statistician/administrative-data-research-network-adrn/), the partner organisations in the ADRN, and the ESRC.The successful candidate will work closely with the Essex-based Director of the Administrative Data Service https://adrn.ac.uk/about/ads/ and the overarching ADRN Director (based at the University of Southampton). The successful candidate will need to demonstrate experience of working with and building links with government departments, public sector organisations and/or national statistical authorities. The post is suitable for an established professional or researcher with experience of working in or with such an organisation / agency at a senior level. The role requires an understanding of the value of administrative data sources to generate research findings for the development of policy.
