At taught postgraduate level, we have particular expertise in commercial law, trade and maritime law, and human rights.The School is looking to make an academic appointment at Lecturer Level.Duties of the RoleYou will be responsible for the leadership of the School's academic skills provision and learning support team, helping to develop the principles and shape the approach to student skills acquisition throughout the curriculum. Working with key academic leadership roles within the School (e.g. Director of Education, Director of Student Support and Progress Director) and colleagues from central professional services sections, in particular the Talent Development Centre and Learning and Development, you will design and deliver study skills and learning support provision for students and design and deliver workshops for teaching staff, and ensure adherence to University policies, procedures and regulation.You will provide expert advice to the School through its Education Team and relevant education committees to support the strategic development of the School's educational provision, and support the Director of Education in the provision of information, guidelines, training and support for academic staff and graduate teaching assistants to enable high quality and effective education support for students. In addition, in partnership with the Director of Student Support in the School, you will help manage the School's Personal Tutor and Peer Mentoring systems and to oversee the School's welcome week and induction programme for new students. A full list of key responsibilities and main duties (Education, Research and Leadership and Citizenship) can be found within the respective job pack below.Skills and qualifications requiredThe successful candidate will hold a first degree or equivalent qualification or professional experience or practice, and a postgraduate qualification in a discipline related to learning and teaching. You will also have Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy or the ability to gain professional recognition at least at this level, and you will have experience of contributing to designing and planning learning activities, developing effective learning environments (face to face and/or virtual) and approaches to student support and guidance in a University, and ideally within a further education setting.Demonstrable understanding of the learning needs of different groups of students and relevant learning, teaching and assessment methods is essential for this post, along with experience of designing, delivering and evaluating study skills and learning support activities and facilities.This is a permanent, full-time post on an ASE contract.At the University of Essex internationalism is central to who we are and what we do.
