Research and Enterprise Office
Applications are invited for the post of Knowledge Exchange Officer - Evaluation Services. Based in the Research and Enterprise Office, this post will be responsible for the development of a range of evaluation services across the University of Essex's academic departments and disciplines.
There is a wealth of experience in evaluating project outcomes in specialisms across the University, including quantitative social science, data analysis, and in the health and human sciences. These skills are important to organisations in receipt of public funding granted on the basis of defined outcomes which must be measured. Increasingly, the private sector also makes investments to achieve social or economic outcomes that require significant analysis to measure. Beyond the largely ad hoc interventions of academic researchers from a range of disciplines, this potential remains largely untapped and under-resourced. This new role will enable evaluation expertise across the University to be offered as a coherent package to external organisations, and foster the generation of external income through a coordinated and resourced approach to bid / tender opportunities.
The Role and Duties
The Knowledge Exchange Officer - Evaluation Services role will be responsible for managing the University's subscriptions to a range of tender / contracts-finder portals; lead development and client management; academic liaison (via an identified academic Evaluation lead[s]); pre-qualification / ITT bid-writing and costing; and post-tender management. Once a portfolio of new evaluation contracts is in place, the post-holder will be expected to be involved in programme management, coordination, and delivery. The role will therefore require both academic and client-facing liaison, business development, and programme and project management.
This full-time post is available to start as soon as possible on a fixed-term basis until 31 August 2019 due to the nature of the funding (funded by the University's Higher Education Innovation Fund [HEIF] allocation); however there may be opportunities to extend beyond the initial term. Part-time hours (0.8fte, four days per week) will be considered. It will be based at our Colchester Campus.Qualifications and Skills required
The successful applicant will be educated to at least graduate level. The ability to interpret funder/ customer requirements to specify proposals and tender responses; establish credibility with both academic staff and commercial partners; and generate income and new project opportunities are all essential for this post.
At the University of Essex internationalism is central to who we are and what we do. We are committed to being a cosmopolitan, internationally-oriented university that is welcoming to staff and students from all countries and a university where you can find the world in one place.
