The Role and DutiesThe University of Essex is going through an exciting period of change, in which Essex Abroad and the Academic Section are playing a key role. We are looking to appoint an efficient and professional individual to fulfil the role of Essex Abroad Assistant. As a permanent post, this role presents an excellent opportunity for the successful candidate who is seeking to start a career in international higher education administration.
An integral part of the team, the Essex Abroad Assistant will primarily support the work of the Essex Abroad Adviser team by providing efficient and effective administrative support. This will include acting as an initial contact point for Student and staff enquiries, and assisting with a range of administrative processes for incoming and / or outgoing exchange and study abroad students / staff. There will also be opportunities to represent Essex Abroad at various University events such as Open Days, Visit Days etc. to promote the student mobility offer.
Qualifications and skills requiredSuccessful candidates will have excellent administrative and organisational skills, be able to deal flexibly with a wide range of work, and relate well to a wide range of people, including international students and visitors. An ideal applicant would have recent experience of working in a relevant administrative environment, experience of using student records databases, as well as some experience studying or living abroad. Proficiency in a language other than English would be an advantage, but is not essential. Candidates will need to demonstrate excellent attention to detail, and a commitment to high standards. The ability to remain calm under pressure, to work independently, as well as part of a team is essential.
